Choosing the perfect Easter family holiday
The Easter school holidays are just a few short weeks away. If you’re thinking of booking a family holiday whilst the kids are off, here are some great destinations to think about.
If taking a long-haul trip with the children doesn’t appeal, you can still get some warm temperatures and sunshine closer to home in Spring. In fact, travelling with children is often more enjoyable if you avoid the scorching temperatures of southern Europe in the height of Summer!
Majorca is just a short hope from Bournemouth airport and is a fabulous choice for a family holiday. There are plenty of beaches to choose from on this beautiful island. When it’s time to take a break from the beach, you won’t be disappointed with the range of family-friendly days out. Enjoy a leisurely stroll around Palma, including a visit to the Palma Aquarium or a horse-drawn coach tour. Or if you prefer to explore, visit some of the awe-inspiring caves, take a hike in the countryside or hop on one of the many boat trips to see the island from a different perspective.
You can expect to enjoy temperatures of around 22 degrees although you will notice it gets a bit chilly in the evenings.
Malta is another destination that is a short flight from Bournemouth airport. You will enjoy a warm Maltese welcome on the mainland and the neighbouring islands of Gozo and Comino. There’s no shortage of places to explore from beaches and walks to churches forts and temples or family-friendly entertainment parks. Whether you want to relax or have an action-packed break, it’s all there waiting to be discovered.
Temperatures are generally around 20 degrees although the water is still too chilly for swimming in the sea so you might want to stick to the hotel pool!
From Bournemouth airport you can fly to Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote all of which boast warm, sunny weather virtually all year round!
Whichever of these stunning locations you choose, there is no shortage of great activities to amuse the children, which is why the Canaries are a perennial family favourite. If you have older children you can try your hands at deep-sea fishing, kitesurfing, caving to name just a few exhilarating activities on offer. Whilst those with younger children will enjoy the quieter pace of the beaches or a visit to delights like Loro Parque on the north side of Tenerife.
Spring temperatures in the Canaries are around 22 degrees dropping to around 16 degrees in the evenings.
If you are looking for an alternative to a beach break, why not visit the stunning displays of the annual Tulip Festival in Amsterdam. Whilst there, you can enjoy family cycle rides through the many parks, a visit to Anne Frank’s house, a cruise on the canal and even a trip to NEMO the large science centre.
Being further north, the temperatures will be cooler so take plenty of layers and coats to ensure you can make the most of your time whatever the weather.
Flights are available from Southampton Airport and take just around 90 minutes.
