The Island of Eternal Springtime and the Pearl of the Atlantic, just two of names lovingly given to the island of Madeira.
Located 400 miles west of Morocco and on the same latitude as Bermuda, Madeira offers year round sunshine with temperatures remaining stable between17 and 24 degrees centigrade.
Within the Madeiran archipelago are four islands, two of which, Selvagens and Desertas are uninhabited and then Madeira and the small beach rich island of Porto Santo.
Madeira lends itself to a holiday for people who appreciate flora and fauna as well as those who enjoy an active walking holiday. The island has an abundance of ‘levada’ walks, these are walks alongside the islands’ irrigation system of mini canals which distribute the rainwater from the north of the island to the drier south. The levadas criss-cross the mountains and cover a total of 2500km. There are walking tours of the levadas for all fitness levels or you can just buy a map and chose your own route.
Madeira, although without the golden sandy beaches of neighbouring Porto Santo, has a few manmade beaches, lidos and wonderful hotel pools, often surrounded by lush vegetation and beautiful tropical gardens. The ocean views and stunning scenery easily compensate.Madeira’s history is
